Experience

2001 - 2021:

De Anza/Foothill College Web Coordinator, Sr. (Cupertino & Los Altos Hills, CA)

Webmaster for De Anza College (2001-2015) and Foothill College (2015-2021) and coordinator of the Web Team (Web Content Developer and Web Support Technician). Responsibilities: system administration and maintenance of varying information architecture platforms (Linux/Unix, Windows, MacOS) and providing the content editing foundation (via web accounts or a WCMS*) of the college's Internet webpages; administering the college's student email notification system and its related hardware and software (both physical and virtual); administering listserv service; programming databases (MySQL, FileMaker, PostgreSQL) and e-commerce applications for use in the college environment; collaborating and coordinating with college and district staff as a part of the web development team; serving as the primary technical web resource for the college; multitasking on disparate projects; providing web-based solutions, ideas, and policies to staff, departments, and divisions; and investigating, evaluating, and implementing new web technologies.

Web, database, and technology projects designed, developed, coded, implemented, or managed:

  • * Web Content Management System (WCMS) - OmniUpdate's OU Campus: Collaborating and working with a team, implemented and deployed De Anza's first WCMS to 300+ users allowing them to update website content.
  • Banner/Ellucian: Collaborated with district IT on projects involving web and database applications.
  • Electronic Curriculum Management System (ECMS): Allows faculty members to create and manage their curriculum outlines. Allows Academic Services to edit, approve, and manage curriculum outlines for the college's Curriculum Committee. Allows for the college's class schedules, catalog, and curriculum outlines to be searched online.
  • Board of Governors Fee Waiver (fka: Online BOG): Allowed student applicants to apply for a tuition fee waiver. Allows Financial Aid staff to manage BOG applicants.
  • Alternate Media Exchange Database (AMX): Through the High Tech Center Training Unit, AMX allowed colleges and universities across the state to track jobs in producing and exchanging alternate media for students with visual/hearing impairments. (State Wide Innovation of the Year Award, 2005)

1997 - 2001:

SSE, Inc. (Sonoma State University) Webmaster (Rohnert Park, CA)

As a student employee, I was webmaster for all of SSE's e-commerce, information and interactive websites. Responsibilities: web design/programming; database design/programming; web server administration; print/web graphic design for events and promotions; coordination of departmental information for all of SSE’s websites; design and implementation of database for University and customer computer orders; providing excellent customer service.

Responsibility highlights:

  • Designed, coded, and managed website for the SSE Bookstore from top to bottom using Perl, PHP, SQL, and XHTML/AJAX. Provided all of the graphic design for the site and executed web server set-up, administration, and networking. Coordinated all web projects for SSE between 1999 and 2001.
  • Developed and maintained database to house ISBN specific data for faculty and administrator textbook queries.
  • Consulted with senior members of SSE staff with regards to all parameters of website design and deployment to execute their planning.
  • Created relational database to keep track of student, faculty, and state computer hardware and software sales through the bookstore.
  • Worked in partnership with Apple, Inc. to expand the use of Mac OS based products and services on the SSU campus.

1999 - 2001:

Gone Surfing / Database Programmer (Rohnert Park, CA)
(Gone Surfing was a extreme sports equipment retail store)

As a part-time contractor, I created an Intranet for Gone Surfing to link its product distribution in Tokyo, financial accounting in Los Angeles, and ordering process in northern California to an online database system. This eliminated their legacy system of insecurely emailing Excel spreadsheets to the separate locations and allowed the use of real-time data management.


1990 - 1995:

(Widell Industries was a tool and die manufacturer)

Responsibilities: product manufacturing; product quality control; employee training; machine set-up; machine maintenance; product inventory control; shipping and receiving management; and general shop/employee management.
